The Tractor Wheel – SOLD
The Tractor Wheel – SOLD
The same dynasty of farmers that brought you the “Sneaky Sack Truck” also supplied us with the raw material for our favourite and most testing upcycle to date.
As we proceeded to resurrect the giant object from its grassy grave, its shape and beauty revealed itself with each clump of dirt, moss patch and bramble we pulled from it. In that moment, a new and more fitting resting place for this old time farm yard work horse was conceived in my mind. Like mad scientists we scraped, sawed, hacked, axed, welded, sealed and polished until……………..it was ALIVE!!!
Tractor wheels are filled with salt water to add weight for traction and also act as an organic antifreeze in the winter months. This causes the oxidisation process to accrue at a quicker rate, in turn creating a beautiful autumn coloured rainbow effect in the metal as we brushed away the rust. Welding a cycler base to the underside and small stations to support the glass top have been done so to create the effect of floating. Achieving the aim of bringing the agricultural English style into the home in a big way.

Resurrected Soldier
Resurrected Soldier
Reminiscent of a WW2 solider suffering with trench foot was this stable door when discovered on a farm in Yorkshire. After undergoing a causality evacuation to the Junk Gypsies operating theatre this soldiers time on front line duty was over. After being washed and prepped for surgery it was obvious to see that this beautiful relic was made by true craftsmen some eighty plus years ago. Individual planks of pine were measured, cut, shaped and finished by a master carpenter. A simple but exquisite lock was then crafted and positioned to finish his work. Four hand forged, folded and shaped sets of hinges were then commissioned by a black smith in order to finish their functional masterpiece.
Now in need of extensive surgery we set about fixing him up. After many, many, many hours in theatre we managed to save all of his enduring features. Now immortalised under a ten millimetre sheet of toughened glass this solider wears all his battle scars with the same pride as his hand calved lock and forged hinged medals obtained for his long and distinguished service. Both blacksmith and carpenter of the same period once crafted the scaffold trestles now repurposed for the legs of this enigmatic piece in order for this solider’s new service. Serving as a constant reminder that a family that eats together stays together. May you eat, drink and laugh for many years in his company.

The Grease Monkey
The Grease Monkey
The grease monkey’s past incarnation was a vice bench in a mechanics workshop. Oil, metal shavings, paint and grime coated the entire work top and frame. We regret to tell you that even the skilled hands of our restoration team could not save the worktop. However as a wise old man of the woods once said ” sometimes you need to cut away a part of yourself so the other parts can grow ” and it is with that spirit in mind we rebuilt the work top and added the basket shelf using the slats from a reclaimed pine bed. Custom built a chunky chopping board added vegetable basket and casters then finished off with a pair of cast iron window handles to hang the tea towels. The grease monkey kitchen island is yet another zero carbon foot print reclamation brought to you by Junk Gypsies.
