The entire structure is held together with five inch coach bolts amplifying its industrial style. This silent keeper of knowledge has a proud demeanour that instantly draws the eye. Wherever this bookcase comes to reside it will immediately become a conversational piece.

The grease monkey’s past incarnation was a vice bench in a mechanics workshop. Oil, metal shavings, paint and grime coated the entire work top and frame. We regret to tell you that even the skilled hands of our restoration team could not save the worktop. However as a wise old man of the woods once said ” sometimes you need to cut away a part of yourself so the other parts can grow ” and it is with that spirit in mind we rebuilt the work top and added the basket shelf using the slats from a reclaimed pine bed. Custom built a chunky chopping board added vegetable basket and casters then finished off with a pair of cast iron window handles to hang the tea towels. The grease monkey kitchen island is yet another zero carbon foot print reclamation brought to you by Junk Gypsies.

The original weathered paint work, rusted cast iron and mortise and tenon joints instantly tell us the history of the piece. Used right up to the day of acquisition by the same family of farmers for three generations.
No repairs or new parts needed to turn this indestructible relic from the past, into fully mobile free standing shelving unit for any room. We personally have ours in the kitchen for our spices and cook books and it looks grand.
